Visa & residence permit

Since Visa application may be a time-consuming process, we encourage students to start their application at least 3 months before their arrival in the country of study.

Visa & Residence Permit

Non-EU nationals who are planning to study in Europe must obtain a Visa and Residence permit for the Shengen zone.

Due to the relevant EU Directive (2016/801), residence permits for the whole duration of the international study program must be granted by the authorities of the first Member State, that is, Hungary.

Non-EU nationals must schedule an appointment with the nearest Hungarian Consulate to obtain a ’type D’ Schengen Visa for the purpose of studies. Since Visa application may be a time-consuming process, we encourage students to start their application at least 3 months before their arrival.

Please make sure you request the Residence permit at the Hungarian Consulate for the full length of your Master’s Program (2 years).

Once in Spain,  students need to send several documents to the Welcome Office at UAM : the Visa ( with the authorization of the whole duration of the international study program ) and a valid passport. In addition to it, it is needed to fill in and sign the attached document. The Welcome Office at UAM will manage the authorization for the duration of the international study program in Spain.

EU nationals staying in another EU state for more than 3 months must apply for a Registration card.

Costs:

Visa fee (Hungary): 80 €

Registration card for EU nationals (Hungary): 1000 HUF (cc. 3 €)
