“The further you venture from your home, the deeper you can self-reflect and see the path you want. Having a background in telecommunication, I became more passionate about exploring AI during these two years with IPCV. It offered me a high-quality knowledge of machine learning, image processing, and data mining with the best European professors in this field. While the semester in Budapest was oriented on teaching us the basics, the semester in Madrid was more on deep learning. In Bordeaux, we studied their implementations in medical imagery. Each semester, IPCV invited computer vision experts from different universities/countries who shared insights from their projects, which I found helpful for learning state-of-art technologies. In addition, traveling, meeting with people, engaging with their culture, and learning new languages helped me to grow as a person. Also, I would like to express my gratitude to the IPCV administration, who assisted me from application to graduation.”
“Coming from an applied physics background, IPCV deepened my knowledge of computer vision. Through the fundamentals to various specialized talks, the program equipped me with enough knowledge before being able to apply it in the real world.
The program also encourages cultural exchange, thus meeting new people with diverse backgrounds and engaging in fun activities. It lets you grow as an individual not just in science, but also as a whole.”
“IPCV has been a transformative experience and I am aware of how cliché it sounds but it is completely true. Beyond the learning in the area of machine vision, I have grown as a person, as a student and also as a professional. These two years have allowed me to meet incredible people who have taught me something, each one of them. In addition, I have constantly challenged myself and I have been surprised by the results.”
“Participating in the IPCV program has provided me not only with detailed knowledge about the Computer Vision domain but also with non-technical tools and skills needed to start a career in academic or industrial research. However, getting to know other students from all over the world was equally valuable to me as any other course I studied during the past two years. I will be forever grateful to them for all the shared experiences and for their help to overcome all our challenges across three different countries!”
“The IPCV program has had a huge impact on my life: since finishing the IPCV I feel that I have grown a lot as a person, both personally and academically. I consider myself a stronger and more confident person.
The fact that I have had to live in other countries was beneficial for me in many ways, and also having met my colleagues has helped me a lot. Each of us is from a different country and I have learned a lot about their cultures, which I think is very important. I have learned to work with them, and they have taught me a lot, not only academically, but also about life in general.
Academically I have learned to study in different ways, as each university had different ways of evaluation. And also I have acquired a lot of knowledge about image processing that I have been able to use in my working life as computer vision engineer.
I think that, in general, IPCV is a very good academic experience.”
“Throughout the master’s program, I have learned state-of-the-art image processing (a little bit of signal processing) and computer vision, combined with professional skills that complemented my learning experience.
The experience was particularly unique in the sense that I was able to collaborate with and learn from individuals from all over the world, forming a network that spanned the globe from one end to the other. This not only enhanced my ability to work in a diversified setting but also to look & think about things with a pair of new lenses.“
“I believe I had a great experience throughout my IPCV experience. It is program that focuses on cutting-edge information in the Computer Vision domain, while focusing on other areas such as Data Mining, FPGAs, Machine Learning and Deep Learning.
The nature of the program is inherently complex given the different scales, formats, due dates, and standards of all partner universities. With this mentioned, I was lucky enough to share these two years with some of the smartest and hardest-working people I have ever met.
My fellow IPCV students’ community pushed me to become a better and more aware version of myself in academic, cultural, and personal aspects. I am looking forward to walking into the professional world, because I know I have acquired several tools that can be of common use for a better future.”

“European who doesn’t believe in borders. Adventurous guy, I chose an Erasmus Mundus master in order to explore new horizons due to my magnificient previous Erasmus+ experience during my BCs. Travelling lover and sightseeing hater, concerned ecologist, football nerd, I like sports in general, and I love fantastic and historic books and series. I am graduated in Electronic and Automatic Engineering in Madrid, so I chose Image Processing and Computer Vision in order to go out of my comfort zone and learn new stuff, trying to enwiden my knowledge with one of the most relevant and useful fields in engineering, acquiring skills that are not generally taught in the environments I have been involved into. My main goal is to contribute to leave a better and more sustainable world than the one I found based in technology.”
“I am Rupayan Mallick, currently completed the semester at Universidad Autonoma de Madrid and would be pursuing my next semester at Université de Bordeaux. From my undergraduate studies, I was highly motivated towards the field of computer vision and could not have asked for better program than Erasmus Mundus Master Degree in Image Processing and Computer Vision (IPCV) . The tailored courses takes us from very basic to highly advanced topics makes us understand with a clarity. Apart from regular classes, amalgamation of the workshops on the recent topics and networking sessions with the pioneers from industries helps you to realize the broad spectrum of the topics from your regular academic courses. Last one year has been a highly rewarding experience for me both academically as well as it helped me to know about various cultures from around the world and great friends. I am grateful to the venerated consortium for providing me the opportunity to be the part of this great experience.”
“During my bachelor’s studies, I had the chance to carry out some research on image processing and became interested in computer vision and how broad its application spectrum is. It all came together after being admitted to the IPCV programme: I am learning about interesting topics through laboratories and workshops taught by devoted professors. What also makes this experience unique, is that I have the chance work with and learn from people from all over the world and build an international network.”
Coming from a background in Physics and Biomedical Sciences I was motivated to study in this area by the growing range of applications for skills in this area. The IPCV program offers the additional benefits of studying across 3 different universities and countries with people from all over the world. So far, having studied in 2 out of the 3 countries I can see how we can benefit from the exposure to the varied areas of expertise within each different university, as well as the chance to experience different approaches to learning in each country. But I think the main advantage of the programme is the opportunity to meet and work with such an internationally diverse group – learning about their cultures, along with their perspectives and challenges with life in Europe, has been fascinating. I count myself very lucky to have this opportunity to get to know and learn from our international IPCV family.
“I lived one of the best experiences of my life. Before joining this IPCV master, when people told me they were going to study abroad, I was really impressed. I was someone who had never planned to go out of Spain, my country, to live on my own and to study. And in English! Joining this master was for me a way to go out of my comfort zone, and I was afraid. But after studying Electric Engineering (Telecommunications in Spain) at UAM (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid) and discovering that I like this field, I couldn’t miss this opportunity.
This master teaches you about Image Processing and about Computer Vision, but specially it teaches you about life and about cultures. In this master you are not on holidays with some international people, learning the best part of every culture. You are living with them, and you learn all the good things, but also all the problems people have. It changes your way of thinking, your vision of the world, and teaches you the most important lesson: that at the end we are all humans.
I made very good friends in this master, friends that left a mark in my life, and I could not be happier of that.”
“I can describe myself as an adventurous and curious person who wants to learn and discover in each step of life and I truly believe that the right path is the one which makes me feel alive. Doing sports, travelling, connecting to the nature, the arts, each shapes a dimension of me, and studying is the one that completes me. My bachelor’s degree was in electrical engineering in Iran, but attending in a medical imaging seminar made me motivated in this new area so my journey in IPCV began. Now, after almost one year of being an IPCV student, I feel it was the thing that I truly wanted. With a hardware based background I’m learning a lot from software aspect, also stepping in to medical areas, and feeling free to choose my career goal in variety of environments are the points that I liked the most, beside the very precious things that I’ve learnt from each of my nice friends and classmates, also interesting moments that we spent all together.”
“Sitting by the window with a mug of coffee one always wonders who they are and what they want to be. In my case one thing was as certain as day and night that I wanted to be the best in whatever I do. Previously a graduate of Electronics Engineering from Air University, Pakistan, I decided to peruse IPCV due to my interest in Image Processing, Computer Vision, Travelling and meeting competent people from all over the world. This experience has shaped me in various ways, and I believe that I have also been able to create a softer and better image of my country in an international environment.”
“I was born in Russia and since high school I have always wanted to study abroad and also liked computers and programming. So, at 22 years old, here I am, in Europe, doing Masters in Computer Vision, sensible amount of sports, and carrying my large tube guitar amplifier around. I will graduate in 2020 and probably continue my studies or work in Europe.”
